The roof of the Terry Sanford Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Raleigh, N.C., is being outfitted with 2,000 photovoltaic solar panels that will generate 560 kilowatts of energy, which will reduce the facility’s annual consumption by 18 percent. The solar array – designed and built by Rockville, M.D.-based Standard Solar – is part of a U.S. General Services Administrative initiative to create “more sustainable and better-performing federal building portfolio.”
