Cloud Emergency Dispatch Startup RapidDeploy Raises $12M

RapidDeploy, which recently moved its headquarters from South Africa to the U.S., also added a former Oracle executive to its board of directors. The company makes software in the competitive emergency dispatch space.

RapidDeploy, a startup that makes cloud-based computer-aided dispatch systems for first responders, has raised $12 million from investors and added a high-profile member to its board.

The Series A round consisted of funding from Samsung NEXT and GreatPoint Ventures. GreatPoint will be sending a managing partner, Ray Lane — a former chief operating officer and president of Oracle — to sit on RapidDeploy’s board of directors.

“We are excited to partner with seasoned technology investors who have proven experience in scaling software and technology,” said RapidDeploy CEO and co-founder Steven Raucher in a statement. “RapidDeploy is on a mission to democratize public safety and will now enter a new stage of growth.”

Computer-aided dispatch, or CAD, is a fundamental piece of emergency response systems that helps manage the process of sending out personnel to respond to 911 calls. The universe of companies providing such systems includes large incumbents such as Tyler Technologies and CentralSquare Technologies, as well as some newer outfits like Mark43.

RapidDeploy, which recently moved its headquarters from South Africa to Austin, Texas, emphasizes its cloud foundations. It is built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing infrastructure.
