Obstacles to Innovation (Infographic)

A new survey reveals the numerous obstacles local governments face when attempting to innovate.

Governments across the board are being asked to do more with less -- they are faced with increased service demands and declining revenues, and it is vital that they find innovative ways to serve the public.

According to a new report from the New America Foundation's California Civic Innovation Project, however, local governments face numerous obstacles when attempting to innovate.

The report, The Case for Strengthening Personal Networks in California Local Government, is the result of a six-month study based on surveys and interviews with city managers and county administrators in California, and it reveals how local government administrators view innovation and how important they feel knowledge sharing is to the spread of innovation.
