Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine this morning named Leonard M. Pomata (pictured) as Virginia's new secretary of technology, replacing Aneesh Chopra, who is now President Obama's CTO. "Len Pomata brings a wealth of experience to this position and has a history of developing innovative ideas and seeing them through to successful conclusions," said Kaine. "As we continue to transform our health-care and educational systems, the commonwealth will benefit greatly from his creativity and his proven ability."

Pomata is the former president of webMethods Federal Group and was president of Litton PRC Inc., an IT and solutions provider for the U.S. government and commercial clients. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and the Board of Visitors of George Mason University.

Pomata has a B.S. in electrical engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic University and a master's degree in computer science at New York University. Additional biographical information here.
