Conneaut, Ohio, Library Makes Grant-Finding Database Available to Public

The online database is the latest technology-based improvement program now underway at the library.

(Tribune News Service) — A special computer program that can put local non-profit organizations in touch with literally millions of potential grants is now available at the Conneaut Public Library, said Kathy Pape, library executive director.

Access to an online database of information was purchased for the library by the Conneaut Port Authority, Pape said. It contains some 3 million entries, including an exhaustive list of foundations and the causes they support, she said.

Initially, the library and port authority teamed to boost their ability to find and write grants, Pape said. Ultimately, the port authority absorbed the $1,000 cost of the database access, she said.

The library is now opening the database to qualified organizations, Pape said. Facilitators for a non-profit can contact the library to schedule an appointment. Access information will not be handed out; the facilitator will need to come to the library to access the database.

The online database is the latest technology-based improvement program now underway at the library. Staff is converting a room that contained computers available to the public into a cafe-style setting devoted to pop culture trends. The computers will be replaced by laptops that patrons can use at various locations within the building, Pape has said.
