On this episode, we return to the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Chief Administrative Officer John Miri for an important discussion about the opportunity for innovation within special districts. Responsible for delivery electricity, managing the water supply and overseeing the environment of the Lower Colorado River Basin, LCRA had a big role to play during Hurricane Harvey. Dealing with a natural disaster of that magnitude put things into perspective for Miri. He discusses the potential for technology like sensors, big data and artificial intelligence to transform emergency response; why now is the time to rebrand information technology; and why special districts are ripe for innovation – all while staying laser-focused on the mission.
