24-Hour Webcam Shows Downtown Salt Lake City

The cameras provide a 180-degree view of Main Street that officials hope will increase interest in the city.

What's going on in downtown Salt Lake City? Thanks to two new cameras installed on Main Street linked to a 24-hour online feed, people can go online and see what's happening. The 180-degree view allows users to see the Gallivan Plaza TRAX stop and the corner of 300 South and Main Street, as well as sidewalk activity.

"The primary reason is to let people know about the great things happening on Main Street," said Downtown Alliance Executive Director Jason Mathis. "In addition to that, if it helps prevent any illegal activity, that's not a bad thing, but that would be the icing on the cake."

The project was completed by The Downtown Alliance as a way to bring attention to Main Street, which has recently experienced a revitalization as many vacant buildings have been renovated. Downtown Alliance officials said this project could bring in more tourism from both locals and others throughout the state.
