CalPERS CIO Dale Jablonsky to Retire from State Service

Jablonsky has spent nearly 30 years in state government, serving six years as the CIO of the Employment Development Department before starting as the CIO of CalPERS in August of 2010.

CalPERS CIO Dale Jablonsky announced in an internal email Feb. 5 that “with great mixed emotions” he would be retiring from state government.

In the email, Jablonsky wrote that he was particularly proud of the implementation of the Pension System Resumption (PSR) project, also known as myCalPERS. The program has been a large challenge for CalPERS and its Information Technology Services Branch, due to the massive amounts of data needed to calculate benefits, but Jablonsky stated in a Techwire Q&A last June that he considered the project “a resounding success.”

Jablonsky has spent nearly 30 years in state government, serving six years as the CIO of the Employment Development Department before starting as the CIO of CalPERS in August of 2010. At CalPERS, he has a budget of $85 million and 485 staff to help run California’s public pension system that serves 1.6 million current and former public employees.

Last year, he was chosen by Government Technology as one of the Top 25 “Doers, Dreamers and Drivers” of technology innovation.

Jablonsky’s last day with CalPERS will be Feb. 15. In the email, he wrote that he plans to do state and local government consulting.
