October 23, 2005 By

Colorado Springs Utilities(Springs Utilities) has reached an agreement with Cellnet Technology Inc., a provider of real-time fixed network and Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) solutions to the utility industry.

Under the multi-year agreement, Cellnet has been contracted to provide its fixed network InfiNet AMI solution, turnkey delivery and project management services for all electric, gas and water customers in the entire service territory of Springs Utilities. The Cellnet InfiNet system combines fixed-network AMR and wireless-mesh technology.

Springs Utilities is a community-owned utility that provides natural gas, electricity, water and wastewater services to customers in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado. It is one of the largest multi-service utilities in the United States.

Starting this fall, Cellnet and Springs Utilities will deploy over 500,000 electric, water and gas meter end points over a five-year period. Springs Utilities will own the communications infrastructure and metering points with Cellnet operating the system under a managed service model through project deployment with an option for Springs Utilities to ultimately assume full system management.

"This contract is another milestone in what is shaping up to be a record breaking year for Cellnet on all fronts," remarked Mike Zito, president and CEO of Cellnet. "Our project with Springs Utilities represents what we believe is the largest combined gas, water, and electric turnkey AMI project ever awarded, and we are honored to have Springs Utilities join our rapidly growing customer community."
