Connecticut Governor Proposes Creation of Web Site to Field Comments, Complaints

"We want to create an electronic suggestion box-complaint window -- an easy, highly visible way for folks to communicate with their state government."

Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that she is proposing to create an electronic clearinghouse that would forward e-mailed questions, concerns and suggestions from citizens to the proper state government department.

"We want to create an electronic suggestion box-complaint window -- an easy, highly visible way for folks to communicate with their state government," Governor Rell said. "State offices already have Web sites, but residents may not always know where to direct their comments. A citizens' forum should help. We want citizens to know that they always have a direct, convenient connection with state government."

Governor Rell touted the success of a Web site established last year for her Teen Driving Task Force, which the governor created to develop stricter state teen driving laws. The site has been flooded with e-mails from residents who have provided suggestions on how to improve safety on Connecticut roads.

In addition, the Department of Motor Vehicles' new Internet registration renewal program has received a strong and positive response from vehicle owners throughout the state. Thousands of Connecticut residents have now registered their vehicles by using the DMV's electronic renewal system, and the number of vehicle owners using the system has steadily grown.
