Egypt Revolution Tracked on Social Media Map

Esri plots locations of protests and social media activity as Egypt President steps down after three decades in power.

GIS software developer Esri has posted a map of Egypt that follows the "social conversation" as the country's historic political revolution continues.

Tweets, YouTube videos and Flickr photos are plotted on the map in near real time. The map overlay includes satellite imagery, street maps and topographic maps.


Citzens flooded the streets of Cairo on Friday to celebrate after word spread that Hosni Mubarak, the country's president since 1981, would resign and cede power to the country's military. Anti-government protests have rocked the nation for weeks. To view the map, click on the image below.
