Extreme Website Makeover Contest for Municipalities Announced

11 winners will get a website overhaul valued at $30,000.

Have an archaic government website and no budget to refresh it? If so, a new extreme makeover contest may be just the facelift your Web presence needs.

Website designer CivicPlus has launched a contest where 11 grand prize winners from each of the company’s operating regions in North America will receive a free redesign and functional upgrade of their official government Website.

The 2011-2012 Extreme Website Makeover Contest, which runs through Dec. 9, will give the winners CivicPlus’ Premium website package, which includes graphic design, website setup and secure hosting, custom page development, training, customer support and a two-year waiver of any monthly maintenance fees.

“The tight economy has been choking city and county government budgets for years,” said Ward Morgan, founder and president of CivicPlus, in a statement. “As a result, many municipalities have put off making much-needed changes and upgrades to their websites … [this] is our way to give back to local communities and demonstrate how yesterday’s government website can be transformed into today’s community engagement platform.”

According to CivicPlus, contest winners will be chosen based on factors such as the age of a government’s website and community need. The company estimates the value of each CivicPlus Premium website package to be worth up to $30,000.

In addition, 10 runners-up will also be chosen and will receive a $5,000 discount if they decide to purchase CivicPlus’ Premium website package.

To enter, visit CivicPlus’ website. Winners will be notified before Dec. 31 and will be publicly announced at the end of Jan. 2012.
