Florida's CIO No Longer Acting

The state ended its search for a CIO by promoting Kim Bahrami.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Kim Bahrami became Florida's official CIO in late June.

Bahrami has been serving as Acting CIO since August 2001, and her appointment as CIO became effective July 1st.

As CIO, Bahrami will be responsible for addressing a wide range of technology issues, including direct oversight of the state's information technology and telecommunications infrastructure.

This position is responsible for providing a coordinated and comprehensive information technology vision through strategic planning, enterprise-wide program management and technical standards implementation for state agencies and political subdivisions and development and the continued expansion of the MyFlorida.com portal.

She will oversee a budget of $303 million. The CIO will also leverage state government's consolidated purchasing power through enterprise agreements and aggregated procurements.

Bahrami has been with the State Technology Office serving first as the director of enterprise project management, then as chief of staff and most recently as acting CIO.

Over the last year she was responsible for delivering a major upgrade and enhancement of the state portal, MyFlorida.com. She led the establishment of enterprise-based licensing agreements. Bahrami also worked closely with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Florida's Domestic Security team to develop the information technology components of the state's critical infrastructure protection plan.

She also created the State Technology Office's Information Security Office, a team of experts dedicated to protecting state technology assets against cyber intrusions and abuse. This office was recently selected by the Center for Digital Government to receive a national 2002 Best of Breed award, recognizing the STO's information security practices.

Her previous professional experience includes program management with The Composite Health Care System, a worldwide federal health care delivery information system. Prior to that she managed IT operations and services at Department of Defense Regional Medical Centers in Fort Bragg, N.C. and in Landstuhl, Germany.

Bahrami received her Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from the University of Georgia.
