On Feb. 4, Ashley Z. Hand began as Kansas City, Mo.'s new chief innovation officer, bringing with her experience with both private- and public-sector clients, helping them to adopt best management practices through streamlining processes, data management and analysis, and incorporation of technology to change the business-as-usual mentality.

With less than a month on the job, she's gearing up for what lies ahead, such as determining the ways the city can improve how it serves and engages various communities.
