The public's demand for openness and transparency in the economic stimulus package is being answered by federal and state governments. Today, for example, the White House announced that the federal government's 2010 budget overview is now available online at the Office of Management and Budget. Additional links include:
The federal government's sites join state sites such as Alabama, Hawaii, Missouri, Maryland, Texas, Kentucky, Illinois and others in opening finances to public view.
In the latest state transparency initiative, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn launched Recovery.Illinois.gov, a Web site created to help that state take advantage of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. The new Web site is the portal to Illinois' implementation of the federal stimulus plan and will:
"We are moving as quickly as possible to get projects going so that we can get the people of Illinois back to work," said Quinn. "This Web site will help them learn about important programs and track our progress."
