Nashua to Automate Municipal Processes

Nashua to Automate Municipal Processes

VICTORIA, British Columbia -- In an effort to cut costs and improve services, Nashua, N.H. will automate its community development and licensing processes. In the future, the city also plans to automate voter registration and to offer a range of municipal services over the Internet.

Nashua -- the second-larges city in New Hampshire -- is implementing CityView software from Municipal Software Corp., and it will rely on the company for installation of the solution and ongoing maintenance. The new technology will save time and money, as well as improve service delivery to city residents, said Kerri Lunn, a programmer/systems specialist for Nashua.

The city intends to automate paper processes in its Community Development Division (CDD), which comprises five departments including Building Safety, Planning, Code Enforcement, Urban Programs and the Office of Economic Development. The departments issue building permits, complete inspections, enforce zoning laws, review site and subdivision plans, develop master plans, provide assistance to the business community, and manage a number of inner city programs. CDD works closely with the Fire Marshall's office, Engineering Department, Assessing Department and Public Health Department.

Once the new software is installed, Nashua plans to develop online services that would allow customers to check the status of building permits, complete permit applications, and submit and check building inspection status.

"The city of Nashua chose CityView because the software product met all our needs," said Lunn. "In addition, the software incorporated all the necessary technologies with the content of the data for ease of use and streamlining of processes. The ease of use with handheld devices, GIS compatibility, CityView's Internet capabilities and the fact that Municipal Software is an ESRI partner were all factors in the decision."
