Oklahomas New Web Site Goes Live

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The states official Web site got a make over, and the finished product, YourOklahoma, launched on Monday.

The first interactive service of the new site is an online business directory; a searchable database that lists every business in the state and can provide query results by company name, business category and location. Officials said the directory is the first of many planned electronic services.

The state signed a $1.1 million contract in June with the National Information Consortium (NIC) to build and manage the portal and to develop sufficient infrastructure to build new online government services. Officials said the portal will allow state residents to access new services as they go live.

Like a growing number of states, Oklahoma designed the new site along constituent-centric lines. The state also conducted extensive research with businesses and citizens throughout the state to determine what various groups wanted from the new Web site.

Other services, including online professional-license renewals and grant applications for the Oklahoma Arts Council, are planned for introduction near the end of the year, officials said.
