Orlando En Espanol Wins Award

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando's Spanish language Web site, Orlando en Espanol, is a role model for bilingual government Web sites, according to the City and County Communicators and Marketing Association (3CMA). The organization recently recognized Orlando's site with a "Savvy" award in the category of Technology Services, Internet and World Wide Web.

Launched on June 12, 2001, at the direction of Mayor Glenda E. Hood, Orlando en Espanol was designed to reach out to Orlando's Hispanic community and to promote Hispanic businesses. The site also has generated International attention, with 27 percent of its visitors coming from outside the United States.

"This well-designed site mirrors the English version," wrote the 3CMA judges. Orlando's Office of Communications coordinates the site, with assistance from Spanish Web Liaisons in each city department.

The 2002 Savvy award presented by 3CMA recognizes Orlando's outstanding achievement in using technology to reach a diverse community. 3CMA is a national organization with more than 850 city and county members. Orlando en Espanol - which can be found at CityofOrlando.net, the city of Orlando's official Web site - was judged the best Web site for cities with populations from 148,000 to 425,000.
