Pioneering Online School Implements New Technology

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Florida Virtual School (FLVS), an Internet-based public high school, will use Element K e-Learning solutions for developing student curriculum and faculty and employee development. One of the nation's leading virtual schools, FLVS authors its own content and licenses it to virtual schools worldwide.

"We at FLVS have a commitment to our students, our faculty and staff, and our partner virtual schools around the world, to uphold the standards for which FLVS curriculum has come to be known," said Bruce Friend, chief academic officer for FLVS. "Given Element K's heritage in training and our mutual commitment to quality online content, Element K was the natural choice."

FLVS will author business education IT courses using Element K's tutorials. Furthermore, the school's faculty and staff have access to online courses covering topics such as basic desktop computing skills and specialized IT certifications.

The Florida Legislature created FLVS in 1997 as pilot project. Today, the school has gained national recognition as a model for e-learning.
