Software Strengthens Training for U.S. Diplomats

SUNRISE, Fla. -- The U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service Institute (FSI), the primary training institution for the U.S. foreign affairs community, is expanding its online education offerings to more than 27,000 employees, more than two-thirds of whom are based outside the United States.

FSI prepares American diplomats and other professionals to advance U.S. foreign affairs interests overseas and in Washington, D.C. At the National Foreign Affairs Training Center, FSI provides more than 500 courses, including some 60 foreign languages, to enrollees from the State Department and more than 40 other government agencies and military service branches. The organization provides online learning opportunities such as self-study tutorials in time management, mentored courses in IT and instructor-led courses in maintaining foreign language reading proficiency.

The State Department recently selected LearnCenter e-Learning software from Learn.com to strengthen its online training programs. The solution will allow most State Department employees to access course material when convenient for them. FSI chose the LearnCenter solution following an evaluation process that included on-site testing by both end-user and technical evaluators.
