Newspapers, suffering from competition with Internet and other media and information sources, this weekend released a study of government online transparency. Sunshine Week 2009 surveyors evaluated state government Web sites searching for 20 different categories of public records. The study was developed by Sunshine Week, the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Freedom of Information Committee, the National Freedom of Information Coalition, and the Society of Professional Journalists' FOI Committee.
According to the survey, Texas provides all 20 public records, and New Jersey was a close second with 18. The states are ranked at the bottom of this Web page.
