Two Reports Concur: No Error in Florida County Elections

February 26, 2007 By

Florida Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning released a statement Friday announcing the results of two independent studies into the November 7th Sarasota County election results.

Both studies found that there was no evidence to suggest any machine or tabulation errors in the election, and the results were accurate. One study was an audit done by the Division of Elections, the other was a study by the Security and Assurance in Information Technology Lab at Florida State University. The university looked at the source codes of the iVotronic and PEB voting machines.

"As always, Governor Crist and I are committed to ensuring that every Floridian's vote is counted and I am confident that the race in Sarasota County was fair and accurate," said Browning.

Hi, Thanks for your clearly written article. I have some ideas about how voting should be done: 1. There should be a clear large-type paper ballot marked by the voter. It should be available in newspapers, libraries and on the Internet, etc. 2. The original ballots should be kept on file for 10 years. 3. All votes should be hand counted in public. From opening of polls until count completion the public should be allowed to observe everything and the process should be videotaped and broadcast live. 4. The voter should put the ballot through an optical scanner for counting recheck only and to make a copy that the voter can keep or shred. 5. Voters should have a choice when voting to mark their ballots with a random number printed on the ballot before it is scanned. In a dispute, the voters who keep such a ballot could be asked to let their ballot be checked against the original retained ballots.

We are left without any explanation at all for the huge and unusual undercount.
