Utah Rolls Out Online County Property Tax Payments

Taxpayers in three counties can pay county property taxes at the state's Web portal.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Residents of Davis, Tooele, and Utah Counties can visit Utah.gov, the state's Web portal, to pay county property taxes.

"I'm very excited to see county applications on Utah.gov," said Phil Windley, Utah's CIO. "Our vision has always been for Utah.gov to be a place where citizens can interact with all levels of government. We're confident that this is just the beginning of the integration of city, county, and state government resources at Utah.gov."

Using the online tax service, county residents should be able to pay property-tax payments in less than five minutes, and officials said taxpayers can also print out a confirmation of their payment immediately.

Prior to the new online system, citizens did not have the ability to pay their county property taxes using a major credit card. With the new system, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover charges can all be processed through the Web portal's secure payment server.

Residents of the three counties who use the online system are also able to pay their property taxes via electronic check. This option allows taxpayers to use their regular checking accounts by entering information from a paper check into the online form.

"We are excited to offer citizens an efficient and smooth process for paying property taxes online," said Melvin Hudman, Utah County treasurer.

Officials said the service was built through a self-funding model that required no state or county taxpayer funds, and a small service delivery fee will be applied to each tax payment transaction.

The service was built and managed through a partnership between Utah and Utah Interactive, which manages the state's Web portal.
