NASCIO on Wednesday issued the third publication in its series on data governance, Data Governance Part III: Frameworks -- Structure for Organizing Complexity

"We're presenting these frameworks to assist state government in planning the scope and the delivery process for data governance," said Oregon CIO Dugan Petty, co-chair of the NASCIO Enterprise Architecture and Governance Committee. "There is no perfect solution.  Each of these frameworks brings a different emphasis and accompanying strengths. We are continuing to deliver on our goal to improve management of state government information and knowledge assets.  The ultimate goal is to continually improve the effectiveness of state government in serving citizens."

"As we continue to move toward shared services and consolidation, proper data governance is in the critical path," said Steve Fletcher, Utah CIO and NASCIO vice president. "Common data definitions become more important as we employ enterprise wide solutions ... Essentially, state government will not be able to make progress toward a shared services environment or consolidation until it makes the necessary steps to manage its shared information."

Data Governance Part II: Maturity Models -- A Path to Progress was issued in March, and Data Governance -- Managing Information As An Enterprise Asset: Part I - An Introduction was issued in April of last year.
