While computer science has gotten the most publicity, statistics degrees have outpaced it as the demand for data analytics skills continues to soar.

An American Statistical Association analysis of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees found that bachelor's degrees grew by 95 percent from 2010 to 2013 compared to 92 percent for computer science. The analysis is based on data from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Data analytics skills are a hot commodity as recruiters look for people who can manage big data projects, according to Fortune. In fact, LinkedIn ranked statistical and analytical skills first on a list of the top 25 job skills of 2014. And more colleges are adding degrees in statistics to keep up, with 110 degrees offered in 2013 compared to 74 a decade prior.
