Missouri Launches New Disability Portal

"America's People, America's Talent, America's Strength" is the official 2008 theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is observed in October nationwide. In recognition of the month, Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt today announced the launch of a new Internet site -- The Missouri Disability Portal -- to assist Missourians with questions about disability resources.

"This project is part of our continuing efforts to combine resources making it as easy as possible for Missourians to get information about state government and the resources it can provide," Blunt said. "In addition to making state government more open and transparent with initiatives like the Missouri Accountability Portal, my administration has been committed to improving efficiency and customer service with this project and projects like the Missouri Business Portal which we launched last year with Secretary of State Robin Carnahan."

"The Governor's Council on Disability is very grateful for the tremendous effort that has gone into making the Disability Portal a valuable tool to provide Missourians with disabilities a direct connection to information and resources," said Todd Mayfield, member of the Governor's Council on Disability. "The Council is deeply committed to continue improving and updating this resource in order to make disability-related information easily accessible to all Missourians."

The Missouri Disability Portal is designed to connect the public with national, state and local disability resources according to their inquiries and interests. Major categories such as Employment, Education, Housing, and Health provide links to disability services and service providers. A customer satisfaction survey and request to add resources to the Directory for Missourians with Disabilities has been included.
