Eliminate Homes, not Trees, from the Forests

Being Firewise means not building in the wildland fire interface zone.

This is a good article on the need for better building codes, zoning and mitigation measures concerning homes themselves. Check out Land use planning more effective than logging to reduce wildfire risk. The article calls out the facts about how logging is not a perfect solution to wildland fire mitigation. I do believe in Firewise as a program to protect homes already in the interface zone, but better yet is keeping them out of the future disaster zone of fire.

Policy and facts don't always line up. As emergency managers, we need to be advocates for "fact-" based decision-making and policies.
