Nuclear plant preparedness provides basis for radiological preparedness

ICF International was recently awarded a contract to continue its work in support of FEMA's Radiological Emergency Preparedness.

With the demise of the Cold War radiological program, these nuclear plant training and exercise programs are the last real bastions of radiological preparedness. Yes, there are HAZMAT teams that have some technical knowledge, but the level of training and knowledge that once was evident on a more broad basis is gone. Thus, having this program in place provides a baseline level of knowledge and expertise for the nation--should nuclear war become a preparedness priority again.
