Should You Seek Removal from the Flood Zone?

Only one statement troubles me.

See this story of a county in Washington state asking for portions of the county to be removed from FEMA flood maps. Check out County Works to Remove Floodplain Designation.

This is a good article in that it shows what development issues come with being in a designated flood zone.

My one concern is the statement in the article about "no flooding in anyone's memory." Nature does not care about our memory or measuring in lifetimes. Maybe they have a good case, but the "memory statement" raised a red flag for me.
