Description:
We are facing difficult times. The pressure to do more with less, deliver to deadlines, and respond to increasing expectations has in many cases created an epidemic of stress and dysfunction. Everything seems so serious, and to Tim Gard this is not an acceptable way to work and live. Although he is one of the funniest men in America, Tim doesnt make light of serious situations; he shines light on them to reveal previously unseen possibilities. He points out that everyone smiles and laughs in the same language, and finding humor when its most needed can be the very best way to boost morale and restore a creative atmosphere. After all, life is a game or should be! It all depends on how one looks at things. By shifting your perspective, you can change your experience and the experience you create for others in a real, tangible, and valuable way. Its never too late to change the game.

In this session, you will hear about the lessons that can be learned from the work that has been done to recover from disaster situations. You will learn how to stay focused to move forward and move on. This session will also discuss how others worked through the challenges created by disaster and the changes that have been implemented as a result.

Description:
The boom in consumer technology means that everyone now owns devices that are probably far more powerful and useful than those provided by the workplace. So it's unrealistic to expect that people won't use them for work-related functions to at least some degree. This session examines how to embrace the trend while still maintaining control and security.

Description:
Government is under incredible pressure right now. The economic crisis has hit us with a double whammy: exponential increases in demand and dramatically reduced resources. Government simply doesnt have the capacity to do all the good we want to do in this world.
How have we responded to these new pressures? By trotting out the old ideas. More blue ribbon panels, travel moratoriums and calls for accountability. We cut back on paper clips and cut out the training. We outsource, upgrade and rightsize. Meanwhile droves of new customers are stuck on our porch waiting to knock on our door and ask for help.
The house of government doesnt need another layer of paint or some new carpet. It needs an extreme makeover. And just like on the show it needs it done fast! Our house is full of moldy ideas that are making everyone sick and our pipes are bursting from the ever increasing demands. We can stand around arguing whether the house is too big or costs too much or we can grab some tools and fix it up. This presentation makes obvious the real problems plaguing government, how you can join the crew and gives you the tools to complete the makeover.

Description:
There are many good reasons to abandon the traditional concept of a data center. The sheer number of devices and computational demand of today to say nothing of the future already burdens physical data centers. Many now advocate a complete move to the cloud to better meet the demands of today and tomorrow. This change offers the organizations abilities that physical data centers cant match. But ditching the data center also yields new challenges with these new opportunities. This session examines the feasibility of moving out of the data center and into the cloud and the associated issues of security, performance and more.

Desktop virtualization trends are being driven by a variety of factors, including teleworking, mobility, storage needs, cloud computing, green technology, maintenance, cost control and overall security. In many cases, the same factors are driving the adoption of tablet computing or even Bring Your Own Device policies. The goal of this session is twofold: To hash out what, given all these options, is the right tool for the end user; and which is the path to a reduction in total cost of ownership.

Description:
Today IT facilitates every agency and every line of business. Yet as we look toward the future of IT there are many uncertainties. As the workforce ages and retires, many wonder whether weve produced an adequate number of graduates who can carry on the mission of IT. Will tomorrows technologists be able to pull legacy, modern and future systems together? And it may be that the fundamental functions of IT we know today will, in the years to come, transform into something scarcely recognizable. This session will explore the shifting role of the CIO and how the future of IT will radically change the workplace and beyond. Youll also learn how training and professional development must change and adapt so IT professionals can thrive in the coming era.
