The Center for Digital Government, Digital Communities, Large Jurisdiction CIO Leadership Group held our annual meeting April 28th and 29th in Seattle. The general theme is an interesting and timely one: “The Building Blocks of Smart.” There has been a lot of discussion about building smarter communities. This has often been seen as a big bang and top down approach from a Mayor or County Exec. The reality is that you have to have the infrastructure and personnel in place to get any traction and there are many different ways that jurisdictions are implementing “smart.” We discussed this from a broad perspective with the view towards sharing what is being done by the participating jurisdictions and what needs to be in place to make these efforts successful. This plus the normal sharing of projects/initiatives and plenty of time to ask question of attendees peers made this an event well worth attending.
