Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Georgia Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
Topics Include:
The rate of change in technology is mind boggling – and today it’s likely the slowest we’ll see in our lifetime. As technology continues to transform the way government does business, the Georgia Digital Government Summit offers us a timely opportunity to explore innovative ways to take advantage of these changes. With outstanding speakers and engaging presentations, the agenda is well suited for both IT staff and agency business leaders. The Summit has earned a reputation as a ‘can’t miss’ event – I hope you’ll plan to attend.

Keynote – COLLATERAL CHANGE: Finding Balance in Our Digitally Evolving WorldGrand Ballroom A/BMichael Hakkarinen, Instructional Technology Specialist, Utah Education Network Is there any doubt that this is the Age of Disruption? Technology is tearing the fabric of society as we know it, driving historic levels of transformative change and mindboggling opportunities. But what are the consequences of this disruption on the lives of everyday citizens? The ramifications run deep, and it’s time to shift our focus from the technology to the resulting “collateral change” in human behavior. We’ve long passed some serious tipping points. This provocative session explores new communication paradigms, runaway device infatuation, generation gaps, radical education, future game-changers and creative ways to engage the “new citizen.” |

Concurrent SessionsMaintaining Control in the CloudEast/West PacesToday, it’s tough to find an organization that doesn’t depend on the cloud for something critical. The question is no longer whether to venture into the cloud, yes or no. Now it’s a matter of “how, what, when and where” – and ensuring sufficient visibility and control. You can’t manage what you can’t see. This session explores cloud contracting, vendor management, exit strategies and other critical factors to consider when operating in the cloud. This session offers an introduction to some exciting – and slightly unnerving – breakthroughs and their potential impact on the future of government. Concurrent SessionsReinventing the Customer ExperienceGrand Ballroom C/DIt’s a highly interactive and fast-paced society, and people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. With citizens used to the Amazons and Googles of the world, the pressure is mounting in government services, too. Our challenge right now is to make “citizen-centric” more than just a buzzword. This session takes a look at creative strategies to remake government’s relationship with its customers into something more stimulating and productive. James Carlson, Public Safety Practice Lead, State, Local Government and Education Strategy, CenturyLink Nikhil Deshpande, Chief Digital Officer, Digital Services Georgia, Georgia Technology Authority, State of Georgia Data Privacy StrategiesEast/West PacesIn recent years data privacy has tended to take a back seat to security. However, with the Facebook debacle and release of GDPR (strict standards in Europe), privacy is again a hot topic. Why do we spend so much on security but not on privacy? What are the main elements of a privacy program? What should we be focusing on right now to avoid being front page news later? This session ponders one of the hottest issues of our times and what it means for public sector. Sam Aiello, Global Consulting Architect, Verizon Enterprise Solutions Stanton Gatewood, Chief Information Security Officer, Georgia Technology Authority, State of Georgia Todd Watson, Information Security Officer, Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia Smart Cities and the Evolution of TransportationGrand Ballroom EIt is quickly becoming apparent that transportation is primarily leading the smart cities movement. Intelligent transportation systems, connected vehicles and autonomous vehicles are compelling – and sometimes controversial – topics. They offer a thought-provoking exercise in visualizing the ramifications of highly disruptive technologies on our communities. This session takes a look at what could soon be a fundamental shift in our society and what localities can to do to prepare. Keynote – The Science of SuccessGrand Ballroom A/BProfessor Catherine Sanderson, Manwell Family Professor of Life Sciences, Amherst College (@CSanderson1217) Many people focus on the importance of cognitive intelligence in predicting academic and professional success. But a growing amount of evidence suggests that other traits – including the ability to control impulses, manage adversity, find internal motivation, and build relationships – are essential in achieving the best outcomes in both personal and professional relationships. Professor Catherine Sanderson will focus on the importance of so-called emotional intelligence (or EQ) in predicting success, and will provide specific strategies for increasing your own EQ. |
