Description:
We are facing difficult times. The pressure to do more with less, deliver to deadlines, and respond to
increasing expectations has - in many cases - created an epidemic of stress and dysfunction. Everything
seems so serious, and to Tim Gard this is not an acceptable way to work and live. Although he is one of
the funniest men in America, Tim doesn't make light of serious situations; he shines light on them to reveal previously unseen possibilities. He points out that everyone smiles and laughs in the same language, and "finding humor when it's most needed" can be the very best way to boost morale and restore a creative atmosphere. After all, life is a game - or should be! It all depends on how one looks at things. By shifting your perspective, you can change your experience - and the experience you create for others - in a real, tangible, and valuable way. It's never too late to change the game.

Description:
If you had to describe the IT industry with just a single word, that word would be change. Change is
the one thing - perhaps the only thing - about technology that never changes! This session takes an
educated and candid look around the corner to answer burning questions such as:
What is the private sector doing that was not the case two years ago?
How is the IT industry changing?
How do these changes translate into government -
and when?
How will government stay relevant in a digital society?
Where will customers push you as a service provider?
Where should you be pushing your customers and how?
What realities might change the direction of your organization?
This multi-media session, based on research by the Center for Digital Government and interviews with
visionaries in both sectors, explores current and potential game-changers and how to get ready for what
lies ahead.

Description:
The term "Big Data" draws a lot of attention, but behind the hype there's a simple story. For decades, organizations have been making business decisions based on transactional data stored in relational databases. Beyond that critical data, however, is a potential treasure trove of less structured data: weblogs, social media, email, video, and photographs that can be big data. Harnessing big data in the public sector has enormous potential to drive efficiency and improve the quality of services. This session will explore what it will take for organizations to take advantage of big data.

Description:
In American history, the single greatest shift in the workplace was driven by the Industrial Revolution as jobs moved from outdoors to indoors. Since then, technology has continually and dramatically affected how we work, yet most people, especially in government, still work in standard office environments. But that's changing. This session looks at the changing workplace and will include case studies of how to deploy and manage government work being done remotely with integrated communications.
