Highlights of Gene's 27 years with NASA include his participation as Flight Director in the Apollo 11 lunar landing, and his leadership of the "Tiger Team" for the successful return of the Apollo 13 crew. Later, he was Director of Mission Operations with responsibilities for all aspects of mission design and spaceflight operations. Now retired, Gene enjoys performing at air shows on a B-17 "Flying Fortress".
