The Chinese government is making substantial investments in green buildings as it upgrades cities and constructs new ones, Chua notes. Professor Wang Youwei, chairman of the China Green Building Council, tells the publication that buildings account for up to 40 percent of the nation’s energy consumption.
The article highlights a new report, The New Era of Green Buildings in China, published by the global real estate consultancy CBRE, that documents the trend. It found that green building space in China grew 154-fold since 2008. China surpassed the U. S. in terms of “green gross floor area,” the article says.
