Pittsburgh App Helps Residents Take Out the Trash

The new app is intended to "help tame the complexity of the trash and recycling collections schedule.”

(TNS) -- Can’t remember your trash and recycling day? Now, there’s an app for that.

Today, the city and the Urban Redevelopment Authority launched PGH.st, a Web app “created to help tame the complexity of the trash and recycling collections schedule,” the mayor’s office said in a news release. The app was conceived at the 2014 Steel City Codefest, an annual civic software application development competition.

Residents can sign up to receive text messages reminding them the day before their trash and/or recycling is due at the curb. The messages also note when holidays delay pickup.

The website also allows search by address to find a location’s schedule for trash, recycling and yard-debris pickups.
