Accenture and Omnetric Group, a joint venture with Siemens, will design and build a system that is expected to make billing and maintenance more efficient, detect outages faster and increase the utility's data and analytics abilities.
The project, which runs until April 2019, will facilitate two-way communications between the utility and its customers, who have 2.9 million electric and 200,000 gas meters. The system also will make new customer services possible, such as allowing consumers to better monitor and control energy usage.
