Government Fun on Facebook

March 4, 2011 By Kristy Fifelski

Government can have fun with Facebook! This video shares stories about communities that have connected with citizens by having a sense of humor on social media. Hear about the City of Reno, Nevada, Round Rock, Texas, and Multnomah County, Oregon.

One day, I'll have an actual microphone and better editing equipment. Until then, please don't mind the scrappy quality :-)

Key to government website success starts with analyzing web data

April 29, 2010 By Kristy Fifelski

I had been thinking about putting together an extensive report covering the City of Reno website (www.Reno.gov) since we began offering hefty online services. After all, how can we decide where we want to go if we don’t know where we’re at? I just published a comprehensive report analyzing online services, transactions, revenue processed and web traffic and couldn’t be happier. We finally have a year-over-year comparison of online service usage. We can see how many citizens are submitting payments online versus traditional methods, where our site is getting the most use and what in the world people are doing on our site. (Check out page 12 and you’ll see that our webcams are insanely popular). If you create your own report, don’t forget that social media analysis. Make sure to report all the tools you’re using, current fans & followers and how many citizen interactions you have cultivated online. And if you still have social media naysayers in your organization, nothing persuades better than good, hard data on the number of citizens you’re connecting with. Check out page 15 of the Reno Website Report for our social media program details.
