I recently flew to San Diego, Calif., to cover the 2013 Accela Engage annual user conference. Accela's systems are used by governments across the world to manage processes such as permits and land management. Think online forms, maps and a lot of data.
Accela is a supporter of GovGirl. I'm cool with that because the more I learn about their company, the more I really like the direction they're heading. My background is in government, and I'm used to working with enterprise government solutions that don't easily open up access to their platform and guard their API with legal docs and huge customization fees.
Announcements at the user conference showed that Accela is interested in being much more open. News ranged from excitement about an upcoming open data platform, to citizen engagement to the new Civic Hero app for citizens.
Best part about the conference? Attendees telling me what superpower they would want to have if they were a government superhero. Watch the video and post a comment at http://GovGirl.com.
