#Hackergov and Trending Topics

In this week's video, GovGirl talks hashtags and their prevalence, and how Longmont, Colo., is promoting its first hackathon.

Check out the cover of this month's Governing magazine with a ginormous hashtag, #hackergov. They told me using #hackergov is a way to share stories that focus on new ways of rethinking how to solve government challenges. Sounds cool to me, and I'm going to try it out and see what other stories I find.

Speaking of #hackergov, Susan Wolak at the city of Longmont, Colo., told me about their plans for Longmont's first hackathon. I featured it in this video because I like their well-rounded promotional approach. They created a UserVoice site to have citizens vote on what to do with government data, made some promo videos, got some local support and are gearing up for their April 12 hackathon.

My last trending topic is another note about the new YouTube channel design. It impacts the look of your channel, so I'm plugging last week's GovGirl video - where I showed you the new features and changes they are rolling out.

Keep in touch and let me know what's going on in your area! Don't forget to follow #hackergov and #govgirl on Twitter.
