An item posted yesterday on the China View news Web site said the country's search engines and blogs will be subject to increased government supervision.

"As more and more illegal and unhealthy information spreads through the blog and search engine," said Cai Wu, director of the Information Office of the State Council, "we will take effective measures to put the BBS, blog and search engine under control."

The Chinese government launched a program on Feb. 21 to "purify the environment of Internet and mobile communication network through a series of measures." A university study, says the news item, revealed more than 36 million blog sites that are predicted to grow to 60 million this year. KW
