FTC Phish

Jun 15, 2007, By Gina M. Scott

This Father's Day the FTC has created a special e-card designed to give dads tips to keep their personal information safe. Available in both English and Spanish, the card uses an animated "Father Fish" to illustrate how Internet fraudsters go "phishing," by sending spam or pop-up messages asking for personal information.

An evil shark poses as a trusted source like a bank, an Internet Service Provider, or a government agency in an attempt to get credit card numbers, bank account information, Social Security numbers, or passwords. The e-card shares tips to "school" dads on how not to get "hooked," along with wishes for a "fintastic" Father's Day: "On this Father's Day no gadgets, not ties. Just a few "phish & tips" to keep you net-wise."
