Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Launches Accela Automation to Support Environmental Protection Goals

Jun 19, 2007,

Stateline, Nev. (June 11, 2007) The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has launched Accela Automation® from Accela, Inc. as its new permit and land management solution. The system assists the agency in supporting its environmental protection mandate and achieving high levels of public service.

The TRPA is responsible for all land management within the Tahoe Basin-including the entire lake watershed within five jurisdictions in Nevada and California: Placer County, Washoe County, El Dorado County, Carson City, and Douglas County. Data maintained within each jurisdiction is now centralized, providing multiple agencies with online access to information, improving efficiency and workflow.

"Over two years ago I made a personal commitment to the public to improve customer service and streamline the permitting process and we're thrilled that Accela is going to help us achieve those goals," said TRPA's Executive Director, John Singlaub. "We're excited to be using the new Accela system and look forward to enhancing the agency's overall efficiency."

Implementation of Accela Automation was completed within approximately eight months, and included additional Accela business solutions:

Accela GISTM enables TRPA's three branches-Environmental Review Services, Environmental Improvement, and Planning & Evaluation-to access and share geospatial land-use and zoning information. Built on the ArcIMSTM platform by ESRI®, Accela GIS seamlessly integrates with Accela Automation to provide automated map analysis.

Accela WirelessTM empowers the agency's inspection team to cover more ground by enabling them to remotely input results from inspection sites using a mobile device. The Accela Wireless application, optimized for Intel® Centrino® Mobile Technology, is compatible with PDAs, laptops, and Tablet PCs running on the Microsoft Pocket PC, Windows 2000, or Windows XP operating systems.

Accela Citizen AccessTM provides real-time, direct access via the Internet to the agency's permit and land management activities, especially important for the agency's many long-distance owners of vacation homes, to go online to schedule inspections, apply for permits, and conduct research on parcels 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is representative of jurisdictions with unique challenges that find they can benefit greatly from Accela's flexibility in providing diverse solutions and services," stated Maury Blackman, Accela's president and CEO. "Accela is especially proud to play a role in supporting the TRPA's important environmental objectives and the opportunity our partnership has given us to develop and apply our expertise to such a critical and timely issue."

Just wondering if the Accela system was in place to use during the wildfires around Lake Tahoe last month, and if so, what is the evaluation of its performance?
