The Yonkers Justice Information System project encompasses a new records management system; an advanced XML message broker to interface with the legacy infrastructure and from Patron Systems, FormStream mobile field reporting software. FormStream will enable Yonkers to replace paper forms and the manual processing of reports with secure and mobile electronic form creation, processing and management. From within the field, police officers will access incident reports, efficiently complete reports then process reports within a mobile environment. As a result, the 758-member police department will be able to spend less time on administrative paperwork and more time in the field fighting crime.
Yonkers is the third major city in New York to deploy FormStream. The Syracuse Police Department deployed mobile field reporting in 2004, followed by affiliated agencies including the Onondaga sheriff's department, Syracuse courts system, District Attorney's office, campus police departments and two surrounding counties. This spring, the Rochester Police Department implemented the software solution to increase accuracy and speed the availability of data. All together, these agencies serve approximately 872,000 state residents.
The New York agencies said they chose Patron Systems' solution because if offers: easy Web-based access, document security, integration with legacy records management systems, customized form creation, improved data accuracy, enhanced inter-agency data sharing and flexibility for future growth.
