The National Wireless Summit and Expo for Cities and Communities¸ a conference focused on the public safety and other community benefits of municipal wireless broadband, is scheduled for Sept. 10-11, 2007 on the campus of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
The two-day national event is designed for government executives and administrators that are interested in deploying wireless broadband projects in their cities and communities, as well as private-industry wireless broadband vendors involved in providing critical infrastructure to the public sector.
In a conference session on Sept. 11, Jeff Cohen a representative with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and senior legal counsel in the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, will present on the
FCC's recent approval of rules regarding the auction of the 700Mhz spectrum. The ruling reserves a portion of the spectrum to promote a national public safety wireless network and facilitate the availability of new and innovative wireless broadband services for consumers.
Other session topics include "The State of Deployment of Municipal Wireless Networks Globally," "Public Safety and Government Efficiency with Wireless Broadband," "Public Safety Applications that Integrate to the Wireless Network," "Government Assistance and Outreach from Federal and State Public Sectors," among others.
Other speakers confirmed to present include representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, California Emerging Technology Fund, and the California Association for Local Economic Development. Municipal representatives presenting include Randi Levin, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the City of Los Angeles, Stephen Ferguson, CIO of the City of Sacramento, and Robert LeGrande, Deputy CIO for the City of Washington D.C.
Presenters from wireless industry include representatives from IEEE, Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, MetroFi, WebNet, Redsky, JiWire, Seakay, Shotspotter, Mesh City and more.
