Seattle's Office of Emergency Management Recognized for Employee Preparedness Web-Based Training

Mayor Greg Nickels announced Thursday that Seattle Office of Emergency Management has been awarded the Technology and Innovation Award by the International Association of Emergency Management for developing a web-based personal preparedness training program for city employees.

The Web-based training is designed to educate employees on the importance of being personally prepared at home so that they can continue serving the people of Seattle by providing critical services during an emergency.

"We are working to make Seattle the most prepared city and that starts with our employees," Nickels said. "By being prepared at home when a disaster strikes, they will be better able to help their neighbors and their community when it matters most."

The Web-based training includes video clips on how to create a personal preparedness kit and making a plan so that each family member knows what to do before, during and following an emergency, such as an earthquake. In addition to the web-based training for employees, the Office of Emergency Management is also preparing a web-based training that citizens, schools and businesses can use. The 17-minute program is slated to go on-line in early January, 2008.

This is a great idea for any business to have something in place to insure the continued operation of their business no mater what size the business. I too, would like a copy of this program.
