House Bill 158 supported by Governor Bob Riley requiring governors to disclose on the Internet details of state aircraft usage and spending out of the governor's contingency fund has been approved by the House.

The House passed the bill 92-4 on Tuesday. Governor Riley has voluntarily disclosed on the Internet the flight logs of state aircraft he uses and spending from the contingency fund since he came into office, and he has supported legislation that makes the disclosures a requirement.

"By passing this bill, the House is working to make government more open and accountable to taxpayers. I urge the Senate to do the same so future governors will have to follow our practice of posting every flight and contingency fund expenditure on the Internet for all to see," said Governor Riley.

The bill, House Bill 158, is sponsored by Representative Mac McCutheon.
