Kansas City Disconnects Municipal Cell Phones
Nov 26, 2002, By Wayne Hanson
Kansas City, Mo., officials have begun discouraging cell phone use by city employees in order to save money, and according to the Kansas City Star the move is saving about $10,000 a month so far, with tighter restrictions coming soon.
The city was paying about $60,000 per month for 900 cell phones, said the Star, and the number has been reduced thus far to 700 phones. The city's Information Technology Department will check to see who is exceeding rate limits and report that to department directors.
