Public Technology Institute (PTI) has recognized the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) as an Innovation Lab for its Broadband over Power Line (BPL) in-building network proof of concept.
NYCHA evaluated BPL technology and developed a business plan to provide a cost-effective solution to replace legacy building door control and intercom systems (which currently cannot support multifunction communication and broadband for high-speed Internet connectivity) and to upgrade the security cameras in the agency's housing developments to a BPL-based system.
As an Innovation Lab, NYCHA will share information on the project and serve as a resource for government officials interested in leveraging existing building power line infrastructure to enable:
