The Texas Workforce Commission has launched a new blog called Texas2Work.com. The commission says the blog is one-of-a-kind in Texas state government.

The blog will be written by commission chairman Tom Pauken and his staff, and will include information that's helpful for employers as well as citizens who are seeking jobs, such as statistics and posts about economic policy issues.

Pauken said in a statement that the commission needed a tool to share information with the public that would keep pace with changing economic conditions.

Texas has been slow to adopt blogging for official government business, according to John Miri, the former head of e-government for Texas.

"I think it takes someone inside the leadership community to take the first step like we are doing with Texas2Work.com," Miri said. He assisted on the Texas2Work project and is currently a fellow with the Center for Digital Government. "Once there are a few good examples out there, I expect the others to come around rapidly. Blogging can really be a very effective communication tool for state agencies."
